Bitwarden

Bitwarden

Bitwarden is a cross-platform, encrypted password manager.

Security and privacy experts generally recommend using an app like Bitwarden, instead of using the same passwords for each website, or storing them in your web browser.

Login & Registration

This service uses a local account. Please follow the steps below to make a new account.

  1. Navigate to our instance, https://passwords.aenead.net/
  2. Select “Create Account”
  3. Confirm your email address

Bitwarden will allow you to set a ‘password hint’, which we highly recommend. We are unable to reset your password in the event you lose it.

Applications

The entire suite of Bitwarden’s apps are compatible with our instance; you can view an exhaustive list at https://bitwarden.com/download/

In order to sign-in to our instance with an app, please ensure that you have set the variable “Server URL” to “https://passwords.aenead.net/". This setting is generally accessed by clicking the gear icon in the upper left-hand corner.

Two-factor (TOTP) Authentication

Our instance enables users to save a TOTP authentication key with their password, to generate two-factor authentication codes. When a user uses an app (e.g., the browser extension) to sign-in, that code is automatically placed in the user’s clipboard. Please note that you can scan QR codes using the Bitwarden mobile app.

Advantages over official instance

Our instance provides ‘premium features’ for our users, free of charge. Below is a list of those features.

  • More encryption options
  • TOTP authenticator
  • More two-step login options
  • Vault health reports
  • Bitwarden send

Privacy and Security

Your vault is encrypted server-side, meaning that we (the server administration) are unable to view or otherwise access any of the information you’ve stored in your vault. You, and you alone, have access to the information stored there.

We are unable to reset your password, nor there is there a “forgot password” prompt. You are responsible for remembering the password to your vault for continuous access. Bitwarden allows you to set a “password hint”.
